Dr McQuillan is the Medical Director of St Francis Hospice, which has 4 consultants, a multidisciplinary team caring for over 1000 patients a year across 2 sites, and, also a Palliative Medicine Consultant at Beaumont Hospital Service which sees approximately 1000 referrals a year.
Dr. McQuillan is engaged in post-graduate, under-graduate and public education and lectures at RCSI, TCD, UCD and NUIG for medical and other staff.
She is a member of the Steering Group for the National Clinical Programme Palliative Care Competency Framework and Chair of the Medical Working Group. Dr McQuillan is a Member of the National Advisory Committee on Bioethics and Chair of the Clinical Ethics Committees in Beaumont Hospital..
Dr. McQuillan’s research interests include working with CSI in London in relation to access to services, and with Prof Hardiman at TCD about MND.
She also facilitates the development of small research projects, with multi-disciplinary colleagues, many of which lead to publications and some of which form the basis for higher degrees e.g. MD and PhD. Currently, she is facilitating research projects by medical students and a SpR about the provision of palliative care for homeless people.
