Inaugural Meeting 30th August 2012
The inaugural AIIHPC Education Network meeting took place on the 30th August in the Ashling Hotel, Dublin. Some 44 organisations representing education providers, regulators, funders and commissioners were invited to join and 28 representatives attended the meeting.
The day opened with a welcome from Paddie Blaney, AIIHPC Director, who challenged those present to see the Education Network as a living entity that belonged to its members, and which can make an invaluable contribution to the palliative care community. Dr Michael Connolly, AIIHPC Head of Education, presented an overview of the AIIHPC and the Education Network. Professors Kevin Brazil (Queen’s University Belfast) and Philip Larkin (University College Dublin/Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services) gave short presentations on their visions for palliative care education.
The rest of the meeting focused on workshop sessions which developed ideas regarding creating a more collaborative culture across palliative care education and supporting health and social care professionals and partner agencies in delivering palliative care services.
A report of the day has been finalised and includes headline areas of activity which emerged during the work shop sessions. It is envisaged that the AIIHPC, with input from the Education Network, will drive forward a detailed programme of activity.
