PCRN Symposium 2015

Since it’s establishment in 2012, the Palliative Care Research Network (PCRN) has held a symposium each year to celebrate the diversity of research in palliative care on the island of Ireland. The symposium has become an important annual event providing participants with opportunities to disseminate and highlight their scholarly contributions  and achievements.  Researchers within the Network come from a range of disciplines including (but not limited to) medicine, nursing, psychology, and health economics, with a shared desire to develop and promote interdisciplinary research and collaboration.

This year’s symposium, held in November 2015, was kickstarted with the first Early Career Researcher Forum’s Annual Seminar. The main symposium event was attended by over 40 delegates including researchers, funders and service users/carers.  It’s purpose was fourfold:

  1. Provide an update on existing research projects (progress, challenges, highlights & patient/public involvement)
  2. Present and discuss the recently launched research priorities for palliative care on the island of Ireland
  3. Bring research to life through knowledge transfer and exchange activities within the context of the PCRN
  4. Provide an update on the strategic plan for the PCRN including future work and potential opportunities.

A summary report from this year’s symposium will be available in the New Year. In the meantime, please contact Dr Tara Murphy, Programme Manager Research, for further information.
