The National Palliative Care QA+I Enablement Committee’s objective is to provide leadership and support for the implementation of a QI enablement programme within specialist palliative care services within the Republic of Ireland.

The Committee advises on and supports the implementation of QI enablement programme for specialist palliative care including:

  • Sharing of self-assessments, policies, audit tolls and QI resources
  • Facilitation and support through workshops and online events in order to support specialist inpatient services together to drive forward the QI process (resourced by HSE)
  • Maintaining a Shared Learning Forum for Palliative Care that will provide services with ongoing opportunity to work collaborate and share their learning and to identify and address similar challenges on the Palliative Hub – Learning Platform
  • Palliative care sector engagement with HIQA

The committee is supported by the National Clinical Programme for Palliative Care (NCPPC), the Palliative Care Strategy and Planning Directorate of the HSE and All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care.

The Patient Safety Sub Group are also working to support the collection of falls and pressures areas data from specialist palliative care inpatient services to support quality improvement across the island of Ireland.
