The All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (AIIHPC) recognises that artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly present in many areas of work, including health and social care, education, research and organisational administration. As these technologies continue to develop, there is a growing need for professionals to understand how AI tools can be used safely, ethically and effectively within their roles.
In response to this need, AIIHPC developed two 4-week tutor-led live online learning programmes titled “Practical AI” and “AI for Educators”. These programmes are designed for staff from AIIHPC member organisations across the island of Ireland who are interested in understanding how AI technologies can support their work.
The programmes explore how AI tools can be used to improve everyday workflows, reduce time spent on administrative tasks and support the creation of educational and training materials. They also examine the ethical considerations associated with AI use, including issues relating to accuracy, bias, transparency and responsible use in professional settings. A key aim of the programmes is to help build confidence in engaging with AI technologies while reducing uncertainty or anxiety around their use.
The Practical AI course focuses on introducing participants to commonly used AI tools and demonstrating how they can support tasks such as summarising information, drafting documents, analysing data and supporting communication.
The AI for Educators course explores how AI can assist those involved in education and training to design learning materials, develop assessments and create engaging digital content.
Both programmes are delivered as interactive online sessions led by AIIHPC, providing participants with the opportunity to explore practical examples, discuss potential applications within their own organisations and reflect on the responsible use of emerging technologies.
Recordings of the sessions are made available through The Palliative Hub – Learning Platform to support continued learning and enable participants to revisit key concepts and resources following the training.
