Palliative Care: It’s more than you think
The campaign theme for 2026 ‘It’s not what you think’ was chosen to help us to connect more with audiences by encouraging them to think about what palliative care really is, what it means in their own lives, and how it can support people both now and into the future. It challenges assumptions and invites people to learn more about the breadth and benefits of palliative care.
Palliative Care Week is a campaign dedicated to raising public awareness and increasing understanding of palliative care and its benefits. Its primary audience includes those who could benefit from palliative care, health and social care professionals, the wider public, and
communities across the island of Ireland. AIIHPC celebrated the 12th anniversary of the campaign in 2025, having led and coordinated the annual campaign since 2014.
Help Support Palliative Care Week 2026
Plan an event– You can help support Palliative Care Week by hosting an event or activity in your workplace or community. This year’s theme offers a flexible and inspiring foundation for you and your colleagues to create something meaningful together.
Share personal stories– Each year, the sharing of personal stories from people receiving palliative care, as well as from carers and family members, help to highlight the benefits and positive impact that palliative care can have on quality of life. If you know someone willing to share their experience, we’d love to hear from you.
Become a media spokesperson– Media engagement is key to reaching a wider audience. We’re looking for professionals who can speak about the benefits of palliative care in local and national media throughout the week.
Printed resources are now available to support you in raising awareness of palliative care. We have palliative care information booklets, posters, and social media frames to share your messages about palliative care during campaign.
